Ashley Harwood 1/2" Push Cut Bowl Gouge w/ Bolster
I am excited to announce my new line of bowl gouges!
Here are the specs:
• True 1/2” diameter
• Parabolic flute with rounded top edges
• M2 Steel
• 40/40 grind
• Polished inner flute surface
• Made in the USA
• Designed by Ashley Harwood
This gouge is specifically designed to be more comfortable and easier to use for the push cut style of turning. The parabolic flute shape is optimal for easier sharpening and use. The top edges of the flute are slightly rounded, making for a more comfortable grip. It is made in the USA, from M2 tool steel that has been hardened down the entire length of the tool to 62-64 Rockwell. Every gouge I sell comes with the grinds that I use, and for this one, it's the 40/40 grind - a 40 degree sweep on the wings, and a 40 degree consistent bevel angle. I personally sharpen each tool before shipment. The inside of the flute has been ground to a fine finish in order to yield the best cutting edge. Of all the tools I use, the Push Cut Bowl Gouge with a 40/40 grind is my workhorse.
I use this 1/2" diameter gouge for shaping bowls and spindles, for finishing cuts on bowls and spindles, and for making my finials.
This tool is sold un-handled. I recommend the AH 16 inch handle and the to use with it for bowl turning. For spindle turning, I would use the 8” or 12” handle.
